MARY J. BLIGE, OMARION and DE LA SOUL TO PUMP UP THE JAM AT SOULFEST ASIA 2015

NEXT month will see a grand hip hop, R&B and soul fest hit Malaysian shores with Soulfest Asia, the region’s hottest neo-soul, funk, hip-hop and R&B music festival set to turn up the heat on Oct 17 at the MINES Resort, near Kuala Lumpur.

Queen of hip hop and urban music, American Mary J. Blige and hip hop heavyweight Omarian are among the major highlights of a star studded line-up that will also feature Grammy nominated Jhené Aiko, as well as hip hop favourite Talib Kweli and the legendary hip hop trio De La Soul.

Soulfest Asia will also feature regional superstars such as Singapore’s hugely in demand rapper, Shigga Shay, plus vocalist Vandetta, as well as Indonesian sensation Raisa and Thai hip hop supergroup, Thaitanium.Malaysia will be headed by the entire Kartel family led by Joe Flizzow (with Sona One, Altimet, Zamaera and Ila Damiaa), soul singer Najwa and hip hop collective De Fam.Bringing up the DJ arena, Soulfest Asia will also feature famed (and a Malaysian favourite) Dutch DJ Irwan and Dutch MC Phatt, plus Raising The Bar, KC and friends, anDJs Ashy Ash, Biggie, Cza, Luqe, Nesh, Naj Frusciante, Axel Groove and Shazz.LOL Events will also share in the celebration of soul through a comedy room called [email protected] Headlining the comedy sessions here will be Gina Yashere (UK) – one of the world’s best female stand up comedians, and Jim Brewsky. They will be joined on stage by Fakkah Fuzz – a rising star in the comedy scene for the South East Asian Region, Prakash Daniel and Rizal Van Geyzel.

Staying true to its promise to be more than just a music festival, Soulfest Asia will be supporting the Women’s Aid Organisation’s public education campaign, aimed at raising awareness for the gravity of domestic violence and the need for public support. A ceramic art exhibition entitled “Can You Keep A Secret?” featuring twelve ceramic life-sized head sculptures designed by artist James Seet will be on display, representing the various account of domestic violence survivors.
